We introduce to you 21-year-old Omphemetse Molai who was born and bred in the province of the Rising Sun, Mpumalanga in a village named Marapyane. Little did the world know that a rising star was being born into this world. You may have heard of him by the name DeeperSoul. The back story to how he got his stage name is quite simple. The name DeeperSoul comes from 2 sub-genres of house Music, Deep House and Soul House, I never thought that far but I guess we are all gifted differently.

When Omphemetse was at a tender age of 13, back in 2010 he discovered that he was indeed a house music fanatic and he started collecting music from the likes of DJ Mbuso and DJ Cleo to name a few. Obviously starting something is never easy as he started out as a bedroom DJ using basic laptop software. The advantage of starting out small was the fact that his friends were the first to recognize his talent from most of the mixtapes he played when they came around and they kept advising him not to sleep on himself. Another form of advice he got was to continue putting his music on the net with the hope of getting a wider audience.

When asked where the inspiration to become a DJ sprang from he stated it was “to put my hood on the map”. He also wanted to find a platform that enabled him to work with established brands in South Africa and tour the rest of the world.

One thing about being a ‘determined individual’ means you take little things to new heights from accepting criticism and acting on it. DeeperSoul as you may have heard has been featured on the biggest commercial platforms in radio like Metro FM & Lesedi FM all in. It did not end there as he also made appearances in community radios then finally he made it to Massiv Metro in 2018. It may have taken him 7 years to see the results of his hard work but that’s what it’s about, great things don’t come easy. In the end it was all worth it.

“I want to share my journey through my music. From being Omphemetse to being DeeperSoul. I hope what I do will inspire; that it will have an impact on someone else’s life.”

With a Deep, Afro & EDM (Electronic Dance Music) sound, he specified that his motivation for this genre of House Music comes with the art that goes on when he is on the decks. It is the type that gets the crowd to interact with him and vice versa. According to DeeperSoul being a DJ is more than just entertaining people, it’s about the work that goes into the entertainment aspect of it. A DJ does not only have to go behind the deck and play, they must establish a sound that appeals to the listeners. Having respect for the hard work you put into your craft is the same as the type of respect one has for their 9 to 5 job. DeeperSoul has a lot of intentions for himself and his brand. With his merchandise he aims to venture out of the borders of this country. Just as any artist can tell you the fans are just as important as the music and with his merchandise he intends on creating a market that spreads as far as a courier company can deliver.

For all artists, branding yourself is important and it’s no different for Omphemetse as he looks up to the likes of DJ Sbu, founded the Leadership 2020 who in 2017 went as far as explaining to him the importance of finding value in branding. He of course started working towards his own brand and became a Brand Influencer.

As much as we all know that most DJs are acclaimed to reckless lifestyles, DeeperSoul believes that the life of trying to impress your friends (doing drugs, spending money on material things you don’t need) can lead to a decline in your success in the music industry. “It is completely unnecessary” he says. His movement is growing, and his fans can expect a whole lot more mixes from his podcast “Deep Tenacity Sessions” more music, more collaborations, more joint and single projects with more radio and tv interviews and screen plays. Basically, there is no telling what he is about to whoop up next.
