When we look at how our country has been hit with various issues that threaten the safety of women, we all want to have something to say about it but how many of us are willing to take a stand and speak up publicly? Meet 22-year-old Rebaone Notoane, from Taung in the North West Province and currently residing in Braamfischer, Soweto. As young as she is, she has accomplished a lot for most people her age. She is a Witswaterand Bachelor of Arts graduate while she hosts her show on an online radio station Fashion District Radio while running for the crown of Miss Soweto 2019.
Rebaone hosted an event called Breaking the Silence at the waffle bar in Newtown junction. This event was a safe space for individuals to talk about abuse with no limitations on what they tell. MC Siya Phakamile Zwane, a co-host on the radion station kept the audience alive with a little humor here and there. Guest speakers included crowned queen to miss Gauteng exclusive, Nondumiso Mndebele, and her 1st princess, Zinzi Booi, together with co-worker Athi Kloke who host the daily breakfast Twist.
Rebaone shared her experience on being bullied and how she overcame the ordeal. She has worked hard over the years to inspire and encourage young women to stand up and overcome the stigmas set by the society they live in. The audience was engaging with all speakers as they shared their experiences.
It was glorious to see friends and family supporting the future miss Soweto in her journey. There were pictures and videos taken in numbers to capture this intimate gathering. Be sure to catch Rebaone on fashion district radio Monday to Friday from 7 oclock to 10. She will also be at the crowning of Miss Soweto on the 30th of November 2019.
